South Korea: To combat its record-low birth rate, South Korea is offering up to $38,000 USD in financial support to couples who get married. The country’s fertility rate dropped to just 0.72 births per woman, prompting urgent government action.

₩30 million housing deposit support or ₩800,000/month rent support for 5 years

Other Regions Join the Effort
Seoul plans to give ₩1 million ($720) to newlyweds starting in late 2025. Rural areas like Geochang and Sunchang offer ₩600,000 to ₩10 million/year to attract young couples.
Public Response & Challenges
Experts say cash isn’t enough. South Korea also needs to address issues like:
-
High cost of living
-
Long working hours
-
Gender inequality and career setbacks for mothers
Participation has been lower than expected, with cultural and economic concerns still preventing many from marrying.
